Keynote speaker, Travis Alabanza

“Undisciplining Women’s and Gender Studies” conference will look at different approaches for undisciplining Women’s and Gender Studies. Through this topic we seek to unfix the boundaries between different fields of study and rethink traditional methodologies for the production of knowledge from imaginative and cross-disciplinary perspectives that unsettle traditional power dynamics inside academic settings. The keynote speaker/performer for this year’s conference will be UK-based artist and activist Travis Alabanza.

Keynote Performer: Travis Alabanza

Alabanza is a Black/Filipino, gender non-conforming, trans performance artist and writer based in London. Their work combines text, live performance, poetry, and sound to create confrontational work concerning their survival as a Black trans person in the UK. Their keynote performance, “Gender non conformiT, the left behind T in trans liberation” is a thought-provoking piece on gender non-conformity, non-binary identities, and the missing elements in the current discussions of trans politics and feminist liberation.

The conference and keynote are free and open to the public. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
