Susan Faludi discusses her struggle to come to grips with her father’s many identity transformations—from Holocaust survivor to suburban dad to household despot to trans woman at the age of 76—and how that led her to explore the larger preoccupation with identity that consumes our age.

Susan Faludi is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of The Terror DreamStiffed, and Backlash, which won the National Book Critics Award for Nonfiction.  She has written for The Wall Street JournalThe New YorkerThe New York TimesHarper’s and The Baffler.  Her most recent book In the Darkroom examines the meaning of identity through her own family’s story.
