Breaking Rules, Broken Hearts: Loving across borders

a storytelling solo performance

by Dr. Ada Cheng

storyteller, performing artist, and show producer

Description: This solo performance tackles issues about gender, culture, and feminism. Ada Cheng explores how one learns about womanhood, love, and abuse in different sociopolitical and cultural contexts through personal stories. An intense personal journey, this solo performance weaves tales of breaking rules and broken hearts across borders. The subject matters explored in this performance are relevant to current debates about gender equality and woman’s status locally and globally.

Bio: Ada Cheng is a professor-turned storyteller, performing artist, and show producer. She is an alumnus of the sociology department at UT at Austin. She became a storyteller and performing artist after resigning from her tenured position at DePaul University in Chicago. She now devotes her time to performing, teaching, and coaching storytelling in addition to producing three shows.
