The Substance of Beauty: Toxic Cosmetics, Safer Products, and Cancer Prevention

Beauty News from Leading National Experts on Environmental Health and Safer Products

Formaldehyde in baby shampoo, lead in lipstick, phthalates in fragrance – product testing by environmental health groups in recent years has revealed dangerous chemicals in products Americans put on our bodies every day. The President’s Cancer Panel has reported that widespread exposure to environmental toxins poses a serious health threat to Americans.

There are simple ways to protect ourselves from unnecessary toxic exposures – starting with the products we put on our bodies.

On Sunday, March 27, the University of Texas (2-4 p.m.)  and W3ll People (5-7 p.m.) will host leading national experts to discuss the latest research on toxic chemicals in personal care products, tips for finding safer alternatives and strategies for preventing cancer. The events are free and open to the public.

Stacy Malkan, co-founder of the national Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and author of the award-winning book, “Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry.”

Allison Evans and Kelly Blackstone, co-founders of Three Branches Healthy Living
