English Symposium:

Surface Symptom and the State of Critique

Exemplaria: A Journal of Theory in Medieval and Renaissance Studies and UT Austin are coming together to host a symposium that will bring together 25 top-flight scholars from across the humanities to the UT campus in an effort to explore the place of critical theory at the current moment. This event will take place around the 25th anniversary after the founding of this journal devoted to theoretical approached to Medieval and Renaissance Studies. The journal was co-founded in 1987 by R. Allen Shoaf of the University of Florida and the late Julian N. Wasserman of Loyola University New Orleans.

The event will take place during the weekend from Friday the 9th or February to Sunday the 12th of February to engage in theoretical questions concerning "surface reading", textuality, "distance reading", and Google books, and the culture that surrounds each of these principles.
