The AIDS Crisis in Kenya: Assumptions and Realities about Sexual Norms and Identities

Fri, March 2, 2007 | GEB 3.312

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Dr. James A. Wilson, Jr., History Department

Throughout Africa, the AIDS crisis is creating open discourses about gender relations, public health policies, sexual practices, and emerging new identities and voices to find solutions to save lives. Dr. Wilson examines the History of AIDS in Kenya to explain why this "new" social movement to discuss sex in the public sphere is transforming attitudes, fears, and conflicts in rural and urban communities in Kenya.
