Latino TYA incorporates theory and practice of all phases of play production of dramatic literature for young audiences that share the broad experiences of Latino/a peoples in the United States. Students will engage in the reading of several Latino Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) scripts and engage in discussions of contemporary issues around Latino/a TYA plays on the page and on the stage. Topics that will be explored include: issues of representation, different populations, critical race theory, culturally responsible education theory, audience reception theory, issues around otherness in theatre and who is producing and not producing Latino/a TYA in the USA and why.
