Faculty Applications for Women, Gender, & Human Rights Signature Course-Development Funding Due September 6

Thu, July 28, 2011

The CWGS Embrey Women's Human Rights Initiative is soliciting brief proposals for course-development funding. We will fund development of interdisciplinary Signature Courses on critical understandings of gender and women's human rights. We accept applications from single faculty or faculty pairs to develop and teach the course twice during a long semester in 2012-2014. Faculty whose proposals are successful will be awarded $5,000 (or $10,000 for a team-taught course) to develop and teach a large-format (30+ students with a writing flag) UGS303 Signature Course.

Course development funding applications are due by Tuesday, September 6.

We welcome course proposals on any facet of women, gender, and human rights, including but not limited to:

* Arts as Advocacy for Women, Gender, & Human Rights

* Immigration, Gender, & Women's Human Rights

* Transnational Feminisms and the Women's Human Rights Movement

* Human Rights in LGBTQ Activism

We are excited to announce that the first round of CWGS-supported Signature Courses on women's human rights begins this fall. The first three faculty groups and courses are:

1. Rebecca Bigler (Psychology): Gender Development, Media, and Human Rights

2. Jennifer Beer (Psychology) and Tatiana Kuzmic (Slavic Studies): Sex and the Russian City

3. Noël Busch Armendariz (Social Work), Laurie Cook Heffron (Social Work), and Bruce Kellison (Business, IC2): Women for Sale?

Please contact Kristen Hogan ( if you have any questions about the Signature Course proposal process.
