Dr. Mark Metzler is one of four runner-ups for Hamilton Book Award

The Robert W. Hamilton Awards for Academic Excellence presented by the University Co-op recognize leading University of Texas authors. The Hamilton Award is one of the highest honor of literary achievement given to published authors at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Metzler won the award for his book, "Lever of Empire: The International Gold Standard and the Crisis of Liberalism in Prewar Japan" published by University of California Press.

Gordon Bennet, Associate Professor of Asian Studies and Government, dies

The Center for East Asian Studies community at the University of Texas is greatly saddened by the passing of Professor Gordon Bennett on May 11, 2007.

The Distinguished Lectures in East Asia is proud to present a public lecture by Stephen W. Bosworth, Dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Drawing from his experiences as the Executive Director of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (1995-97) and Ambassador to South Korea (1997-2001), Dean Bosworth will address the causes and consequences of the ongoing nuclear weapons crisis on the Korean peninsula.
