Dr. Brian Trinque and Dr. Patrick Van Horn were two of the four faculty members to receive the Silver Spurs Centennial Teaching Fellowship for the Spring 2018 semester.  This Liberal Arts award recognizes a faculty member’s consistent commitment to educational excellence. Recipients are nominated by the University's Silver Spurs student organization and receive a $10,000 award.

Dr. Brian Trinque

Dr. Trinque left his home in Mapleville, RI to attend Ohio Wesleyan University.  A semester of study in India led to an economics major, and the advice to study with the “Texas School” Institutionalist economists in Austin.  Several classes with Professor Leibhafsky and another year in India were among the highlights along the way to a PhD under the supervision of Professor Jannuzi.  Brian lives with his wife and son in Austin, and has been a lecturer in the economics department at UT-Austin since 1995.  He has several volunteer roles at the Saint Mary Cathedral and School and enjoys long road trips.

Dr. Patrick Van Horn

Dr. Van Horn was born and raised in Houston and Austin, Texas. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics at Stephen F. Austin State University and his Ph.D. in economics at the University of California, Irvine. His research interests include monetary economics, economic history, and financial crises. Dr. Van Horn’s hobbies include jogging, outdoor activities with his family, restoring a 1968 Camaro, and convincing his wife that this is the year it is finished.
