Economics Welcomes Visiting Assistant Professor

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gabriel Basaluzzo has joined the Department of Economics for academic year 2006-2007. Dr. Basaluzzo is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He holds a M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering from Instituto Balseiro, and an M.A. in Economics from Universidad de San Andres, both institutions located in Argentina; and a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Economics at the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and the Director of the Masters program in Finance at the Universidad de San Andres (Argentina).

Dr. Basaluzzo’s main areas of research are Quantitative Macroeconomics and Empirical Industrial Organization. On the macro side, he is mostly interested in models of entrepreneurship and firms dynamics, with emphasis in the role played in the economy by angel investors and venture capital funds in the presence of financial frictions. His interests in IO focus on monopoly pricing and oligopoly competition in nonlinear tariffs with endogenous consumer participation, firm mergers, and the behavior of the pension fund industry.

Dr. Basaluzzo has taught Macroeconomics and Finance at various levels, as well as principles of Economics, intermediate Microeconomics and Microeconomics for MBAs.
