The Economics Department is pleased to announce that Sarah McKay has been awarded the 2012 NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit for Academic Advising.  Sarah McKay is a Senior Academic Advisor who joined the Department of Economics in March.  Before her position in Liberal Arts, Sarah served as an advisor for the Center for Strategic Advising in the School of Undergraduate Studies.

The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) seeks “to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.”  The Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit is a national award that honors individuals who have served in an advising role for no more than three years.  Recipients are chosen by a selection committee that looks for excellence in an advising role evidenced by practices that include strong interpersonal skills; evidence of student success rate; caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty and staff; monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals; mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and procedures; and ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising.

Sarah will receive her Certificate of Merit during a special awards reception in October at the NACADA Annual Conference in Nashville, TN.
