About Alan Friedman

Alan Warren Fiedman is Thaman Professor of English and Comparative Literature.  His five authored books include Party Pieces: Oral Narrative and Social Performance in Joyce and Beckett and Fictional Death and the Modernist Enterprise. He has edited Samuel Beckett in Black and Red and Modernism and Literature: An Introduction and Reader (with Mia Carter), and he has co-edited four special journal issues on Joyce and Beckett.  He has won several teaching awards, including the President's Associates and Plan II's Chad Oliver Teaching Award, and both the English Department's Faculty Service Award and UT's Civitatis Award.  He is past Chair of the University's Faculty Council.
