A New Literary Journal for English Majors: Hot|House

Fri, November 21, 2008
Hot|House is a new literary journal for English majors which aims to publish the best creative work by undergraduate students.  Hot|House began in Spring 2008 when English major Paula Mendoza-Hanna, the journal’s first editor-in-chief, wanted to develop an outlet for writers just beginning literary endeavours. Soon, a gathering of students from diverse backgrounds organized the first meetings for the journal.  All of these students shared the desire and energy to create a publication that represented the unique styles and perspectives of students in the undergraduate English program.

Now, through the collaborative efforts of English undergraduates, Hot|House aims to showcase compelling and exceptional student work that, at the early stages of a writer’s life, might otherwise go unnoticed.  In addition to poetry and prose, the Hot|House staff hopes to include works of non-fiction and special features which might include genre-bending pieces such as prose poems or short film or play scripts.

Hot|House has developed distinctive editorial roles.  Staff members oversee every step in the publication process, and all will work with the editor-in-chief to produce a quality journal.

Hot|House editors have already begun work on the first issue, which will launch in March 2009, but the journal will be accepting submissions through Tuesday, November 25.  More information may be found on the Hot|House website:
