English Commencement 2014

Congratulations to the UT English Department graduates of Spring 2014!

Commencement occurred this past Saturday, May 20, when over 130 students walked across the Gregory Gym Auditorium stage and received their diplomas (or rather, letters promising delivery of their diplomas). During this ceremony, the Class of 2014 heard a rousing commencement address by our very own Professor Mia Carter, who spoke of the importance of the humanities and the empathetic, thoughtful, and analytical citizens they breed.

Twenty-two faculty members were recognized for their many recent teaching awards, and multiple students were honored. The English Department’s two Dean’s Distinguished graduates, Sarah Lusher and Patrick Naeve, were commended. Patrick Naeve also won the English Department's Burleson Outstanding Thesis Award for his thesis, "'To Reckon the Far-Off Origins of Men': The Historical and Geographical Poetics of Beowulf." Sarabeth Flowers and Ernie Artiz also received special commendations for their theses, Sarabeth for her “attention to literary form” and Ernie for his “theoretical sophistication.”

The English Department wishes all of its graduates the warmest congratulations and the best of luck.
