"Austen in Austin" Exhibit Now Open at the HRC

Tue, September 3, 2019

Janine Barchas's new exhibit “Austen in Austin” is now open and will run through the end of the year!  This one-room exhibition in the Stories to Tell gallery gathers together Jane Austen copies owned by the Ransom Center to see how the holdings of a single author reveal book collecting practices.  The exhibition coincides with the publication of Barchas's new book The Lost Books of Jane Austen, which the HRC has graciously offered to sell and promote in its shop for the duration of the exhibition.

The book, officially released on October 8th, celebrates the unsung cheap reprintings of Austen that did the heavy lifting of placing her in the canon but have not been collected by major libraries or recognized by scholars.  You can see a slideshow of sample pages here!
