After you arrive in Austin, there are still a few things to do.

Within the first few days of your arrival to Austin, you will meet with a staff member from CES who will help you become familiar with the UT Austin campus, settle into your office, and answer any questions you might have. They will also take you to have your id card made, set up access for you at the Perry-Castaneda Library (UT’s main library), and show you the gym where you may join (for a small monthly fee). Please remember to bring your passport and your password for your EID to this meeting.

CES can provide you with a desktop computer for your office (runs Windows software) or you may bring your own laptop.

Social Security Number
If you do not already have a social security number, you will need to apply for one after you have been in the United States for 10 days or more. This must be done in person at the Social Security Office in Austin. CES and UT's International Office can provide more information.

UT Austin’s International Office requires all visitors to attend an orientation session. We recommend that you schedule your orientation within the first two weeks of the spring semester. You may schedule the orientation after your arrival.

As we mentioned under “courses”, after classes have begun you will have access to Canvas, an Learning Management System where you will be able to communicate with your students, upload materials for them to read and review, and post grades for them to see. If you’d like to learn a bit more about Canvas before the semester starts, please go to the Canvas Learning Center
