James S. Amelang (b. Louisville, Kentucky 1952) has been Professor of Early Modern History at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid since 1989. He has published several works on the urban, social, and cultural history of early modern Spain; his most recent book is Writing Cities: Exploring Early Modern Urban Discourse (Central European University, Budapest, 2017). He is currently completing The Oxford History of Early Modern Spain.
