Italian Placement Testing on 08/28 in HRH 2.106B @ 1:30 pm

French Guest Lecturer Jacqueline Couti

Mon, February 18, 2008 | TBA

4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

What could Wide Sargasso Sea, a novel by Jean Rhys and A Tempest, a play by Aimé Césaire have in common, apart from the fact that these authors are from the Caribbean? Both works published at the end of the sixties are rewritings of famous contributions to the British canon. Besides, contrasting Wide Sargasso Sea to A Tempest allows us to question traditional binary and essentialist racial paradigms. Skin or its color has become a rigid social and racial construct: a restricted space.
