FR 330K "Paranormal French Activity: Horror & the Fantastic in the French Short Story

Instructor: Sarah Le Pichon

Come familiarize yourself with the short story as a genre in the context of Francophone (France & beyond) literature. You might recognize some names (Flaubert, Balzac, Baudelaire), and hopefully learn a few new ones! The class will cover the particularities of the genre, and how it evolved over time. Horror fans welcome--but don't let the scary stories intimidate you! We'll tread carefully.

ITC 330 "Eco-urbanism in Italian Culture"

Instructor: Sam Gaglio

This course invites students to interrogate their relationships with cities and citizens, both human and nonhuman. By reading important works of Italian literature (Italo Calvino, Gianni Celati) and Italian film (Gianfranco Rosi, Matteo Garrone), we will examine how consumer culture, urban design, public transportation, and the untouched natural world shapes identity and behavior. This course is multimedia-focused and invites critical (and creative) thinking about city life in the 21st century.
