Geography Society Speaker Series: Dr. Ian Norton

The University of Texas Geography Society is an undergraduate student group dedicated to providing a fun social outlet for students interested in geography, support for participation in undergraduate research, and professional development through speaker series, k-12 educational outreach, workshops, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Please join the Geography Society for their Spring 2014 speaker series-

Dr. Ian Norton

Senior Research Fellow at the University of Texas Institute of Geophysics

Prior to his career in at the University of Texas, Dr. Ian Norton spent 26 years with Exxon Mobil developing the company's global plate tectonic model and applying regional-scale tectonic and paleogeographic analysis to the search for oil and gas. He now serves as one of the lead researchers for the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics PLATES project, which is currently sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

During his presentation, Dr. Norton plans to discuss his involvement with the UTIG PLATES project and how he has been able to track paleotectonics and model paleogeographic reconstructions in his research.
