Congratulations to our PhD alumni for their awards and current graduate students who presented papers at the 35th Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers (CLAG) this year held in San José, Costa Rica. Professors Gregory Knapp, Bill Doolittle, and Eugenio Arima also presented papers at the conference.

Christopher Gaffney (UT Geography alumnus) receives his recognition for outstanding editorship of The Journal of Latin American Geography from Kendra McSweeney. He served as editor from 2015-2018, bringing the journal to new heights of readership, diversity of perspectives, and profitability, enabling CLAG to finance unprecedented numbers of student projects and activities. Chris, internationally famous for his activist research on the urban and social impacts of sports mega-events, and for leading Team Rubicon’s disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico, is starting a new phase of his life on the faculty of New York University.
