Geography students make an impact with east Austin gentrification study

Students in Dr. Elliot Tretter's Frontiers in Geography, a senior capstone seminar course, studied and compiled data on the direct relationship between increasing property taxes in the East Austin and gentrification. The data provided the basis for residents to receive assistance. East Austin Conservancy utilized the report to identify 20 homeowners to assist. The Conservancy will begin with an unprecedented effort in Austin to raise about $50,000 to help at least 20 longtime homeowners in the Govalle and Johnston neighborhoods pay their delinquent property taxes.
