Othoniel Vázquez Domínguez a Master’s student in the Geography Department wins an award for his poster presentation at the SWAAG annual meeting in Little Rock, AR.  Vázquez Domínguez's poster presents the results of tree ferns on the margins of the Tlacoapa River in the municipality of Coscomatepec de Bravo, Veracruz, including five species of tree ferns in the Cyatheaceae family and one species in the Lophosoriaceae family. The work describes the distribution of all species that were found and their relative value of importance and Simpson’s diversity index in order to estimate abundance and diversity of the ferns. Based on results and criteria for protected status, this work proposes the inclusion of Lophosoria quadripinnata to the Mexican endangered species list (NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2001). In addtion this work documents the probable discovery of a new variety, ecotype or hybrid of the genus Cyathea Presl [=Trichipteris Presl].
