Robin W. Doughty, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Texas at Austin,  along with his co-author Virginia Carmichael have published a book with UT Press titled “The Albatross and the Fish: Linked Lives in the Open Seas.”   Doughty and Carmichael establish that the Albatross’s fate is linked to the commercial fishing activates of the Bluefin Tuna and the Patagonian Toothfish.   The book gives an environmental history of the Albatross and outlines a story of the potentially catastrophic extinction that has been interrupted by an unlikely alliance of governments, conservation groups, and fishermen.
