Post-Secondary Training

Hemispheres works with Colleges and Departments of Education and Educator Preparation, alternative educator certification programs, 2-year colleges, and minority serving institutions that are interested in internationalizing their courses across the curriculum. 

Educator Preparation

We are currently seeking partners for a pre-service educator preparation program that will develop a collection of open source resources to assist with internationalizing courses across the curriculum, from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), English/Language Arts (ELA), to social studies, fine arts, and vocational fields. The host institution project requirements should fit neatly within existing educator preparation course syllabi.  

We are currently working with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University and the Department of Educator Preparation at Huston Tillotson University, and are seeking additional partners at colleges and universities within the South/Central Texas region.

2-Year College Projects

Hemispheres is exploring several avenues to work with 2-year colleges on internationalizing their curriculum and training foreign language faculty, especially those offering Less Commonly Taught Languages such as Arabic, Hindi, and Russian.  If you are interested in proposing a joint project or exploring ways that we might be able to work together, please contact us at hemispheres@austin.utexas.edu.

Minority Serving Institution Initiatives

Hemispheres is currently collaborating with Huston-Tillotson University, a Historically Black College in Austin, on its development of an international studies program by sponsoring the teaching of courses and faculty development to support the implementation of a new student facing program (major or minor) by 2018.

A faculty development seminar on Minorities and Diasporas--open to all MSI and 2-year college faculty--was held in the spring of 2015.
