Institute's 2008-09 Doctoral Research Grant Recipients Announced

Fri, August 1, 2008

After receiving a remarkable number of strong proposals on topics ranging from imperialism and colonial development during the British occupation of Cyprus, to a social history of contraband trade in New Granada (present day Columbia and Venezuela), to Native American captivity and displacement in the Atlantic, Mexico, and the U.S. Southwest, the IHS selection committee agreed last week on seven top-notch finalists.

With the Institute's first year of programming scheduled to begin next month, the announcement of its 2008-09 Graduate Research Stipend finalists could not be better timed. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the strengths and contributions of our graduate students," remarked the selection committee members, "This certainly reflects an impressive start to a very promising year of programming for the Institute."
