Dr. Cynthia Talbot received her Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and is an Associate Professor in the Department of History.  Her research focuses on the social and cultural history of medieval and early modern India; historical memory, and Hindu-Muslim relations.  She is the author of Precolonial India in Practice: Society, Region and Identity in Medieval Andhra (Oxford University Press, 2001) and is currently working on the historical traditions of the twelfth-century Indian king Prithviraj Chauhan.
