Emily Whalen is a doctoral candidate in History at the University of Texas - Austin.

A Graduate Fellow at the Clements Center, Emily specializes in US foreign policy in the greater Middle East from the late Cold War to the present. She works as a consultant for the EastWest Institute and was previously a coder for the Armed Conflict Location and Event Database. She contributes to Not Even Past, UT's public history website, and Foreign Policy's Best Defense column. Emily speaks French, Italian, and Levantine Arabic. She graduated with highest distinction from the University of Virginia (BA 2010).
