Staff member receives College of Liberal Arts Excellence Award
Courtney Meador's signed certificate from Dean Randy Diehl

On May 10, 2011, College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Human Resources Director Gail Davis awarded the framed certificate to Courtney Meador in Garrison Hall.

Meador is the key administrative support person for the Institute for Historical Studies (IHS) which was established by the Department of History in 2007, under the directorship of Professor Julie Hardwick. She works closely with Department of History Chair Alan Tully on Visiting Committee relations; collaborates with Kathleen Aronson, assistant dean for development in the College of Liberal Arts; and Rick Geyer, the department’s outside fundraising consultant. She also serves as an administrator for the department's Not Even Past website, assisting Professor and Editor Joan Neuberger.

Just a few quotes from numerous nominations letters, which must remain anonymous:

"Courtney Meador is the most amazing administrative person I have met in my 15 years in the academe...She acts as if her job is to make everyone who visits at home at UT and in Austin — sort of an ambassador at large."

"Courtney Meador is perhaps the most efficient and personable administrative expert I've encountered in my experiences in three different university History departments."

Meador said the award was "a wonderful surprise, an honor, and very humbling," and "really a testament to the entire staff and the leadership we're supporting." She called it "a recognition that reflects upon us collectively."

Established in 2005, the Staff Excellence Award "recognizes staff members in the college who have demonstrated the drive, leadership, and dedication to keep us running," wrote Dean Randy Diehl in a letter to recipients this year. The award is accompanied by a cash award and an invitation to an awards luncheon hosted by the dean.

Past recipients in History Department include Laura Flack, executive assistant, in 2010, and Nancy Sutherland, academic advising coordinator, in 2000.
