The mission of The University of Texas at Austin is to achieve excellence in the interrelated areas of undergraduate education, graduate education, research, and public service. These guidelines are intended to enhance the College’s participation and contributions to the University’s mission by managing our workforce in the most effective and efficient manner to increase the impact of our teaching, research, and service.

Core Principles

As we transition to a work model that both sustains what we have learned from the past year and adjusts to once again support a highly competitive and productive community of students, faculty, and staff, we will embrace and uphold the following core principles:

  • Approach the 2021-22 academic year with flexibility as we develop specific plans to return to campus guided by functional job requirements, health and safety, community and team needs, and employee input.
  • Maintain our full commitment to provide a high-quality and supportive on-campus learning and teaching environment for our students and faculty.
  • Support the professional and personal success and well-being of our staff through flexible work arrangements, compassion and patience as we plan a return to campus.
  • Support a highly productive and competitive research environment for our faculty.
  • Comply fully with all UT established guidelines around health and safety standards.
  • Work closely with our departments, areas, and centers to ensure a thoughtful and collaborative approach to re-opening campus, while complying with all applicable UT policies and procedures.
  • Strive to establish an equitable and transparent process for evaluating telework needs and agreements across the College.
  • Seek to provide ample notice when asking employees to return to work on campus.
