IUPRA’s policy recommendations in response to AISD’s proposed School Changes strategy

In light of the Austin Independent School District's (AISD) proposed School Changes strategy, IUPRA has conducted policy research on the effects of school closures as well as the disproportionate impact on Black students in Austin. IUPRA’s School Changes Strategy policy brief presents recommendations to AISD in advance of the upcoming vote on the proposed strategy. Download and read the brief here.

We have also put together two infographics that shed further light on the issue. The first infographic shows the impact AISD’s proposed strategy would have on Black and Latinx students, and the second includes quotes gathered from recent AISD community sessions and highlights some of the community’s concerns. View the infographics here.

IUPRA’s Research Associate, Ricardo Lowe, MS, has written an op-ed published by the Texas Tribune to share his thoughts on the data. You can read the op-ed here. The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of IUPRA or The University of Texas at Austin.
