Results from IUPRA's 2019 Georgetown Needs Assessment now available

In early 2019, IUPRA received its second award from the Georgetown Health Foundation (GHF). The grant directed IUPRA to conduct a needs analysis in Georgetown, Texas, focusing on residents of the Southeast neighborhoods. After a few months of qualitative, participatory-based research, we are glad to release the final version of this 2019 Needs Analysis, titled Centering Southeast Georgetown Community Voices: Update, Explore Emerging Needs, & Evaluate Impact of Georgetown Health Foundation (GHF) Response to 2015 Assessment.

Background

In 2015, the Georgetown Health Foundation commissioned a needs assessment, conducted by IUPRA. GHF wanted to understand both the opportunities and challenges facing low-income residents in Southeast Georgetown. IUPRA worked closely with the community to conduct research that led to the identification of 10 critical needs areas. Through this assessment’s findings and recommendations, GHF funded specific initiatives to address the community’s most pressing health needs. Read the 2015 assessment here

2019 Grant

Today, Georgetown continues to grow and change exponentially. While GHF acted to address the community’s needs through various initiatives, they wanted to learn about the successes and shortcomings of those initiatives, as well as to examine what new needs and challenges the community is facing. The research was designed in order to:

  • Determine whether the original "Top 10" Critical Needs identified in the 2015 Needs Assessment are still the top needs today;
  • Learn if the efforts made over the last four years to address the 2015 findings have made a difference to community members;
  • Identify any new or emerging issues that community members would like GHF to work on.

IUPRA presented their updated research findings on November 13, 2019 at the Georgetown Public Library to GHF staff and partners.
