4-H CAPITAL AmeriCorps members provide hands-on science activities in an afterschool setting at elementary and middle schools in the Austin, TX area. Members plan and teach hands-on science activities in an afterschool setting in one of 5 curriculum areas (Animal Science, Gardening, Natural Resources, STEM/Engineering, and a rotating topic). Half Time instructors lead classes 2 days a week and assist with Animal Science Goat classes 2 days a week in the Fall (please note there is no goat program in the spring, and members will assist with a different curriculum area). Afterschool classes run Monday-Thursday from 2:30-6:00pm, and members should expect to teach at multiple school sites during the week (mileage is reimbursed from work site to work site). Fridays are used for lesson planning, staff meetings, administrative duties and additional trainings. Typical Half Time Member service hours are 1:00pm - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday, with 30 hours of additional Outreach volunteer work required. Half Time Animal Science assistants must be comfortable working with live goats weighing up to 120 lbs (training is provided). 

- Commit to a term of service August 13, 2014 – May 29, 2015 
- Serve a total of 900 hours (20-25 hours a week) 
- Typical hours are Monday - Friday from 1:00pm – 6:00pm) 
- Have a car and driver's license (or reliable transportation) 
- Must consent to 4 part criminal background check 
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new things 
- Experience working with youth is helpful, but not required (all training will be provided) 

- Earn a stipend of $6,406 ($335.92 twice a month) 
- Earn an education award of $2,288 after successful completion your term 
- Qualify for student loan forbearance during your term of service
