Job Description: Provide support for the Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team of the Administrative Systems Modernization Program. The position involves 1) analyzing reports from across campus to identify the data concepts used to produce them, 2) identifying which data concepts are similar across reports, and 3) documenting which data concepts from the current systems are replaced by which ones in the University’s new systems. In other words, the student associate will assist the team with steps 1 and 4 of the following process:

For example, 1) for Report A you identify that it contains a count of faculty who belong to a "minority group" and Report B contains a count of faculty who self-identified as Hispanic, 2) you recognize that "minority group" and "Hispanic" are similar in that they both relate to racial/ethnic categories, and 3) based on information provided to you by EDM staff, you document which fields in the University’ new systems store the racial/ethnic categories that faculty self-identify as and which categories are included in "minority group".

• Ability to recognize patterns and retain prior knowledge
• Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills, such as using creativity and logic
• Strong organizational skills, such as logical sorting, grouping, and labeling
• Detail-oriented, especially for noticing commonalities, subtle differences, and peripheral information (ex. date range of the report is in the file name but not in the header or body of the report)
• Professional demeanor and good communication skills
• Ability to stay on task with minimum supervision and seek input from supervisor as needed
• Ability to learn quickly by experience and instruction

Preferred Qualifications:
• Maturity in judgment.
• Ability to prioritize.
• Able to work well on tasks alone or with a team.
• Basic understanding of database functioning, such as exposure to Excel, MS Access, FileMaker Pro, MySQL, etc.
• Undergraduate student looking for long-term employment.
