About the Panelists:


• ACE: A Community for Education - ACE is an early childhood literacy program at the University of Texas at Austin that strives to ensure every child in Central Texas is a successful reader before third grade, setting them on a path of excellence in school and in life. ACE places highly trained AmeriCorps tutors in low-income elementary schools to provide 1-on-1 reading tutoring to children in kindergarten through second grade. ACE is currently hiring 100 full-time AmeriCorps Early Literacy Tutors to start in September of 2014. Apply now to become an ACE tutor and make a difference in a child's life.


• City Year - City Year is a national non-profit that partners with public schools throughout the country to help struggling students get back on track. City Year deploys 17 – 24 year old individuals who passionately serve as tutors, mentors and role models to students from third grade to ninth grade. Join us to help close the achievement gap and ensure all students have a chance of graduating from high school and attending college.


• Peace Corps - Peace Corps volunteers serve worldwide in over 70 countries and provide valuable assistance in the fields of health, education, business and information technology, environmental advocacy, agricultural development, and youth development.  Benefits Include: travel, possible student loan deferral, full medical/dental coverage, living stipend, $7,425 readjustment allowance upon completion of service, graduate school opportunities, and 48 vacation days.  Volunteers gain invaluable real world experience that can is useful in applying for jobs and grad school.


• Teach for America – Teach For America recruits outstanding recent college graduates, graduate students, and professionals – of all academic majors and career backgrounds – who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools. Our corps members become lifelong leaders in the effort to make a great education, and the opportunities that come with it, a reality for all students. Teach For America’s network in the 2012-13 school year includes 10,400 corps members teaching in 46 regions across the country and nearly 28,000 alumni working in education and many other sectors to create the systemic changes that will help end educational inequity.
