Bike Austin, Bike the Vote Community Organizing Intern, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 9030

Wed, September 24, 2014

In November 2014, the City of Austin will have its first election under single member districts, significantly changing the membership of the City Council. This election will shape the direction our rapidly growing city takes and how resources are allocated. For a healthier, more economically viable city, it is critical that the bicycle/pedestrian community and its allies have a voice in choosing the next City Council.

The Bike The Vote Community Organizing Intern will work alongside Bike Austin staff to organize students and community members to register and pledge to vote. This will entail weekly tabling sessions on UT's campus, outreach to student groups, and various Get Out the Vote tactics in the community as the election draws near. The intern will also work with a dedicated group of volunteers to organize their neighbors in support of bike-friendly candidates.

While most of this position will involve hands-on community organizing work, some office work - particularly tracking our progress and entering data - will be necessary. Training for all relevant organizing and outreach skills will be included in the position. 10-15 Hours/week.

Experience or interest in the non-profit or volunteer sector and an out-going personality. Community organizing experience a plus. Passion for bicycling, sustainability and politics a must.
