The Inclusion & Adaptive Programs Activity Specialist is a temporary/seasonal staff position scheduled to work between 20 and 40 hours per week in a recreation programs setting specializing in adaptive programming for special needs. Center locations are: 

• North Austin Worksites:

- Hancock Recreation Center 
- Northwest Recreation Center 
- Virginia L Brown Recreation Center 
- Alamo Recreation Center 
- Dottie Jordan Recreation Center 
- Pickfair Community Center 

• Central Austin Worksites: 
- Austin Recreation Center 
- Metz Recreation Center 
- Givens Recreation Center 
- Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/Pan American Recreation Center 
- Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center 
- Turner-Roberts Recreation Center 
- Delores Duffie Recreation Center 
- Lorraine "Grandma" Camacho Activity Center 
- Danny G McBeth Recreation Center 

• South Austin Worksites: 
- Dittmar Recreation Center 
- Dove Springs Recreation Center 
- Montopolis Recreation Center 
- South Austin Recreation Center 

• Central Programming Inclusion Unit provides assistance with participants with special needs that might be at several varying recreation centers. 

• Successful applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, exhibit creative thinking, perform good judgment, and have excellent communication skills 

• Applicants must also possess reliability, trustworthiness, and be safety conscious. 

Activity Specialist/Inclusion Specialist essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following work duties and other related duties as assigned: 
1. Have the willingness and ability to work with children and teens, including youth with special needs. 
2. General supervision to maximum assistance of individuals with disabilities ages 6 to 22 years and adults. Safely facilitate and actively supervise participants at all times while engaging in a variety of activities. 
3. Developing, scheduling, and conducting program activities for ages 6 to 22 years and adults. Develop, modify and teach program activities to accommodate various ages, abilities and interests. 
4. Ensuring that all events and activities conform to appropriate safety guidelines and other rules as well as modifying for maximum participation. 
5. Serve as a role-model, exercising appropriate decision-making boundary setting. 
6. Completing forms and maintaining records as in accordance with the City of Austin (COA) and with the Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) policies and procedures. 
7. Ensuring the facilities and equipment being used for programs or events are properly set up and maintained 
8. Utilize effective behavior management skills, including enforcing policies fairly, consistently, kindly and firmly. 
9. Maintaining inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment. 
10. Work cooperatively with co-counselors and other staff. 
11. Coaching recreational and sports activities as needed. 
12. Safely transporting children to and from various locations around Austin, including swimming pools, parks, museums, and other attractions. 
13. Answering the phone, providing excellent customer service, and assisting with other clerical duties. 
14. Communicate clearly and professionally with, participants, parents, co-workers and supervisor. 
15. Following Departmental Policies and Procedures and adhere to safety guidelines. 
16. Complete reports and forms and assist with maintaining records in accordance with COA and PARD policies. 
17. Regular attendance is essential for this position 
18. Attend regular assigned schedule is essential. 
19. Attend all sessions of scheduled staff training. 
20. Other duties as assigned.
