Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university level geography, planning, environmental science or engineering program.  

Preferred Qualifications: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate level geography, planning, environmental science or engineering program. GIS experience or training and have completed water resources and statistical methods coursework. 


Job Description: Austin Water is seeking a motivated, hard-working, bright, Planning or Engineering Student in our Systems Planning Division. This division plans new utility infrastructure, uses hydraulic models for analysis of water and wastewater systems, reviews infrastructure plans relating to development in Austin, and conducts water resource planning for Austin within a regional context. This position will primarily be focused on assisting with the development of population and employment forecast-related geospatial data as well as providing support to various water resource, wastewater, and demand planning efforts. 
Major Responsibilities May Include: 
• Population & Employment Forecasts for Water and Wastewater Analysis and Planning, Water Supply Planning, & GIS Analysis 
• Population & employment forecast-related geospatial data creation, input, manipulation, and analysis related to water & wastewater infrastructure planning 
• Integration and representation of Long Range Plan GIS data 
• Research, technical writing & review, analysis related to water supply and demand planning 
• Coordination support as part of Austin’s Integrated Water Resource Plan development
