Consumers Union (www.consumersunion.org), the policy and advocacy division of Consumer Reports, announces two paid student assistant positions for college students (preferably graduate level) to assist with work related to our health reform and patient safety advocacy campaigns. The position, based in Austin, TX will run through May 2015. Students should ideally be available to work 20 hours per week.



Based on the interns’ strengths, we will split the below activities and responsibilities between the two positions.

Job Requirements

Student Assistant Activities Include:

* Learn about Consumers Union’s health reform and patient safety advocacy programs.

* Research policy issues and synthesize data to support issue campaigns.

* Engage with consumers that submit stories about life experiences that relate to our advocacy campaigns and provide some direct assistance to consumers looking for specific help.

* Provide research and user support to our healthlawhelper.org tool.

* Monitor legislation, regulations, and news developments related to our issues.

* Help maintain our social networks and produce blog content for advocacy sites.



Desirable Qualifications Include:



* A passion and curiosity for consumer advocacy and the public interest.

* Careful attention to detail in research and writing.

* Interest in and experience working /volunteering for campaigns or with organizations focused on consumer issues is a plus.

* Comfortable with social media platforms including at least Twitter and Facebook.

* Outstanding interpersonal skills, highly motivated, responsible, self-directed, resourceful, and flexible.

* Comfortable with prioritizing and executing multiple requests and projects at the same time.
