Flatirons Solutions is looking for a Desktop Publisher to join our Austin team!
If you are a self-starter with a keen eye for details, we are looking for you! If you have desktop publishing skills with a hint of graphic design knowledge, that is a huge plus. For the right person with the right attitude, we will get you trained up on what you don’t already know! This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with a growing company!
We are looking for someone who:
-Can juggle multiple projects and switch gears seamlessly. Priorities are going to shift and we need someone who can roll with the punches.
-Is a self-starter with the ability to connect the dots. It’s a production environment with lots of moving parts.
-Has the determination and attention to detail of Michelangelo. Have you seen the Sistine Chapel ceiling? Wow!
What you’ll do all day:
-Generate layouts for highly technical course content using InDesign, Word, and PowerPoint. Must follow the customer style guide.
-Revise training materials per customer input. Take markup files from the customer and incorporate the changes into the final product.
-Perform quality checks. Make sure that all documents are complete and meet the requirements before you send them to the editing and QA group.
-Collaborate with subject-matter experts, project leads, illustrators, editors and instructional designers. It’s a group thing and we like it that way.
What you will be measured on:
-Projects delivered on time and within budget. Ours is a deadline-driven environment, and it’s important that we keep our customers coming back.
-Quality, quality, quality. Fast is fine, but only if the quality is out of this world.
-Your ability to be flexible when faced with changing priorities. Rewarded are the flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape!
A few reasons why you might hate it:
-For our largest clients, we do a good bit of work using templates that already exist. It can get repetitive.
-The content tends to be very technical in nature. Can you still give 100% on every project?
-You must learn and adhere to our customers' style guides. You can’t always color outside the lines.
A few reasons why you might love it:
-Collaborative team environment with direct access to instructional designers, editors, and subject-matter experts. You have plenty of support.
-Laid back office environment with a flexible schedule. We supply all the free coffee and snacks you can consume. Plus, a very casual dress code.
-Weekly office perks. Think free breakfast tacos, Beer:30’s, weekly lunch parties with showings of The Office, and more!
Requirements:
-Associates degree in Education, English, or Liberal Arts preferred.
-Previous writing or communication experience preferred.
-Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
-Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
-Must be self-directed and focused, with an emphasis on attention to detail and quality.
