The Google Community Leaders Program is a multi-stakeholder digital inclusion program, anchored by collaboration between local universities, the City of Austin, and Google Fiber. The goal of this program is to narrow the digital divide by addressing digital literacy needs in Austin communities and helping Austin residents with low Internet usage gain access to the transformational opportunity/power of the Internet.

What Google CLP Participants Do:
As Google CLP Participants, undergraduate students from The University of Texas at Austin, Hutson - Tillotson University, and St. Edward’s University will undertake a range of activities such as:
• Develop programs and manage digital inclusion projects in partnership with a nonprofit organization;
• Engage in discussions about technology access and use with residents and community groups in Austin communities;
• Manage educational campaigns to teach more residents about how and why the internet can open new doors of opportunity; and
• Create a curriculum to train residents and other stakeholders on how to use digital tools.

How Google CLP Participants Benefit:
Undergraduate students selected for this competitive program will
• Develop skills in community building, facilitation, and team-building;
• Gain exposure to issues around city planning, diverse neighborhoods, public engagement, and digital inclusion through readings, discussions, and meetings;
• Have access to mentors from Google and the City of Austin who will offer additional insight into issues relevant to bridging the digital divide.

Undergraduate students selected for this program must be willing to commit to high-intensity engagement with the program over the 2016-17 academic year, including:
• A commitment of 40 hours throughout the Fall 2016 semester to team meetings, group trainings, engagement with a selected community partner, and office hours.
• A commitment of 60 hours throughout the Spring 2017 semester to team meetings, group trainings, engagement with a selected community partner, facilitation of community trainings, and office hours.
