Human Dimensions of Startups: A conversation with Dr. Art Markman

Entrepreneurship thought leader Eric Ries defines a startup as a human institution designed to deliver a new product of service under conditions of extreme uncertainty. The key word here is "human" institutions. How do groups of people come together to create something that has never existed before? How do startup teams collaborate to create innovation? Nick Spiller, Liberal Arts Student Ventures Coordinator, will engage Dr. Art Markman in a discussion of these questions and others regarding the human dimensions of startup teams.

Dr. Art Markman is the Director of UT Austin's Human Dimension's of Organizations program that provides education in the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences to people in business. Dr. Markman is also the Annabel irion Worsham Centennial Professor of Psychology and Marketing at UT Austin. In 1992 he earned a PhD in Psychology from The University of Illinois and a B.S. in Cognitive Science from Brown. Dr. Markman is also contributres blogs to sites like Psychology Today and Fast Company.

Nick Spiller is the Founder of the Longhorn Entrepreneurship Agency and Student Ventures Coordinator in UT Austin's College of Liberal Arts. He has contributed to many of UT Austin's entrepreneurship program including Freshman Founders, UT Entrepreneurship Week, Longhorn Startup Lab and the Entrepreneurship Live. Nick has previously interviewed entrepreneurs like Tim League, Founder and CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, John Arrow, Founder and Chairman of Mutual Mobile, and Zach Dell, Founder and CMO of Thread.
