You’ll learn techniques for using an engaging style, targeting your audience, and preparing content for publishing. We’ll even practice the techniques so you can try them for yourself.

Emily Nielsen Rachel Griess

About the Presenters
:

Emily Nielsen (left) is a Public Affairs Specialist II for the College of Liberal Arts at UT Austin, where she writes stories about liberal arts students and manages website content and social media. She also writes for the college’s biannual magazine, Life & Letters. As a strategic communications student at Oklahoma State, she had internships with Philbrook Museum of Art, OSU Libraries, Avalon Communications and Rallyhood.com. She also served as director of Innovative State, a student-run strategic communications firm.

Rachel Griess (right) recently began working for the Office of Public Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts, specializing in media relations. Her primary responsibilities include producing press releases and news articles, directing media inquiries and tracking college media coverage. She came to UT Austin from Colorado State University, where she graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s in Journalism and Technical Communications and worked for two years as a marketing and outreach writer for the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Prior to graduating, Rachel built her resume and refined her written and verbal communications skills through internships with Clear Channel Media + Entertainment radio stations and the CSU Office of Public Relations.
