Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, Internship Investigator, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 11542

Tue, May 31, 2016

he Criminal Law Internship Program (CLIP) provides a fast paced, hands-on investigative internship for current students and graduates. Intern Investigators spend at least 12 weeks at one of the most prestigious public defender offices in the nation. Our interns don’t just sit in the office all day copying files. Partnered together, they work directly with staff attorneys to complete various investigative tasks and zealously advocate for their clients.

Full-time (40+ hrs/wk) and part-time (25-35 hrs/wk) internships are available. Internships may be completed for academic credit. New internship sessions start throughout the calendar year. Please review the Informational Bulletin found on our website for specific dates.

At this time, we are only accepting internship applications through our online system. Please visit our website ( and look under the "Employment Opportunities" tab for further information and instructions.

From there, you can fill out the online application and upload all necessary documents. We require a cover letter, resume, and fact pattern response. We also accept references either in list-form on through recommendation letters sent directly to us. Note that the fact pattern prompt for the required essay is found within the document upload section. For more information, you should review the CLIP Informational Bulletin and Internship Video also found on the CLIP home page.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Sessions often fill quickly, so it is highly recommended that serious candidates submit their applications by the priority deadlines listed in the Informational Bulletin. Applications are accepted after the priority deadline but are not guaranteed review. Interviews are not guaranteed, regardless of submission date.
