Shell Nonprofit Internship Program (Houston,TX), Application Deadline

Mon, June 1, 2015

The Shell Oil Company Nonprofit Internship Program commenced in Houston, Texas in 2008 with 20 nonprofit organizations. The 2015 program provided 40 nonprofit agencies $2,500 grants used to hire qualified college students to work eight weeks during the summer.

Volunteer Houston manages the program, connecting qualified agencies with college applicants in meaningful positions that meet both the agencies’ needs and the students’ career goals. In addition to the work experience, Shell sponsors and participates in 3 networking events during the program, enabling students from universities in Texas and across the country to learn more about the organization and to network with each other. The program introduces students to careers in nonprofit and the importance of community service.

Agencies are selected based on their work in three key areas of social investment targeted by Shell: education, environment, and community. The program supports Houston nonprofits whose work aligns with the company’s social initiatives.

The Shell Nonprofit Internship Program is extremely beneficial for Shell, agencies and college students.

  • For Shell, it is an opportunity to support Houston area nonprofits aligned with the company’s social investment initiatives.
  • For selected agencies, the program enables much needed support during the summer, when program needs often increase and volunteer support decreases.
  • For college students, the program offers practical experience in their field of study and the opportunity to learn new skills while making an impact in the community.
