WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION? 

• Builds new and/or modifies existing Data Warehousing (DW) and Business Intelligence (BI) solutions to meet business and systems requirements through business requirements gathering, software component designing, coding, testing, and quality review 
• Uses DW/BI toolsets to gather, store, and provide access to data to assist the Enterprise in making better business decisions 
• Provides industry best practices in support of DW/BI solutions through application of architecture and development practices for guided and discovery analytic solutions, including data design, data movement, data access, data visualization, and data quality/metadata techniques 
• Provides consultation on analytic capabilities and enterprise integrated data assets to business partners in order to mature the Enterprise business intelligence vision and direction 
• Consults with customers throughout the enterprise and within the department to analyze their research and information needs and determines analytical requirements for system application and data processing solutions, including the selection of appropriate data, tabulations, statistical methods and analysis, and communicating results and insights 
• Provides analytics, business domain or data expertise and insights to organizational leaders in response to their business questions through the use of data, tools, technologies, and BI discovery solutions 
• Integrate and leverage Geographical Information Systems applications to enhance analytical capabilities and data visualization effectiveness for BI solutions delivery and support 
• Participates in advanced analytics work such as capture data, discovery work, visualization, prototyping/concept realization, and operationalizing advanced analytics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This opening is for an entry-level DATA ANALYST. 
Specialties within our Data Analyst work include: 
* Business Intelligence Analyst - works with a variety of software applications to analyze data. Activities could include analytical processing, querying, dashboard development, and reporting. 
* Database Administrator (DBA) - responsible for the control, integrity and accessibility of the database file structures for use with multiple, concurrent users. 
* Data Designer - responsible for translating business data requirements into conceptual and logical data models. Works closely with database administrators to design physical database solutions. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
* A computer/technology related Bachelor's degree 
*Academic success in key IT coursework 
* For Business Intelligence Analyst, experience in one or more of the following: 
o Business Intelligence tools ( i.e. Qlikview, Cognos, or Business Object). 
o Metrics, Visualization techniques and Analytic trending and analysis. 
o SQL or other Relational databases. 
* For DBA, experience or coursework in two or more of the following: 
o DB2 
o SQL 
o SQL DBMS e (Riak, Cassandra, MongoDB, CouchDB) 
o Data validation tools, techniques 
o Common ETL (extract, transform, load) technologies 
* For Data Designer, experience in one or more of the following: 
o Relational database design/modeling 
o Object oriented design/modeling 
o Case tools (e.g., ER Studio, ERWin, Rational, Power Designer) 
* Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment 
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written 
* Willingness and ability to learn new technologies 
* Strong technical problem solving skills 
* Strong critical thinking and analysis skills 
This position will have an 18-month incumbency period for a lateral move and a 6-month incumbency period for a promotional opportunity (beginning on the effective date of the position) which must be met before the employee can post for any other State Farm position. The incumbency period does not affect the at will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
