• Designs, creates, alters and maintains database solutions, across multiple platforms and computing environments, that meet business needs 
• Creates, maintains, follows, and/or implements data and database administration procedures, strategies, guidelines, standards, tools, support and training 
• Performs analysis and problem resolution related to databases, as well as database software and tools
• Collaborates with database software vendors on items such as software upgrades, enhancement requests, problems, and potential solutions 
• Performs industry research for data and database technologies and related software, tools, standards and training 
• Keeps abreast of data and database administration industry trends/best practices for use in strategic and/or tactical planning 
• Conducts research, analyzes and synthesizes information; anticipating business needs and its application to Systems processes and potential solutions 
• Functions with the highest level of autonomy; consistently assumes a lead/coordination role in the completion of work responsibilities 
• Drives, embraces, and enables an environment of change - fostering innovation; championing initiatives, efforts, and ideas for Systems and the Enterprise 
• Applies breadth and depth of knowledge to complete significant troubleshooting on the most technical data issues or business situations that hinder the achievement of service level objectives 
• Assists in budgeting and component/project planning, as requested 
• Applies broad-based knowledge of database indexes, index management, and referential integrity with an in-depth/specialized knowledge of at least one database management system to perform daily tasks 
• Completes SQL Performance tuning and query optimization to reduce CPU consumption and response time and increase integration/operability of systems 
• Completes SQL reviews to improve or ensure efficient database access techniques 
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots database integrity, performance, and data replication issues 
• Applies broad-based knowledge of data backup, restore, and recovery methods to complete daily assignments 
• Keeps abreast of business and IT industry trends and best practices while modifying processes to meet changing needs and influences the direction of solutions 
• Maintains solid relationships and strategic partnering skills with business partners, team members, and external associates 
• Provides database administration support to business partners 
• Provides incident resolution 
The State Farm's Systems Team is looking for a highly motivated individual with a Database and Linux background to work on Postgres Administration in the Platform Innovation area. Platform Innovation's mission is to provide a highly-available and state of the art application platform, frameworks, tools, and technical services to deliver competitive advantage for State Farm. 

As a member of the Postgres team in the Platform Innovation area, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the team on Postgres version upgrades, enhancement requests, security patches, automation, problems, and potential solutions.  

Required Skills: 
* Linux 
* Postgres or Oracle 

Desired Skills (experience or exposure to these technologies would be a plus): 
* Other database product knowledge 
* Puppet 
* Scripting (shel or perl) 
* Splunk 
* System administration and configuration experience 
* Problem triage and resolution experience 
* Works effectively within a variety of situations and with various individuals and groups. 
* Is willing to experiment to find solutions 
* Independently recognizes what's important to job responsibilities and addresses it
