The THC Staff Services/Human Resources intern will perform entry-level administrative and technical assistance work. Performs primarily entry-level clerical work in the Staff Services Department in areas such as bookkeeping, inventory control, statistics, employment, human resources, purchasing, or accounting. Work involves compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, copying/filing documents, maintaining files, answering phones, opening agency mail, greeting visitors, and accepting packages for the department. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Additional work may be assigned with Human Resources. THC intern will need to comply with agency confidentiality policy in regards to handling personnel files if applicable. Work involves assisting in the administration of a human resources management program and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Works under close supervision with THC Human Resources Staff. 

Complies with all agency Internship Program policies and procedures 

Examples of Work Performed: 
Performs technical and administrative work in support of THC programs. Assists with maintaining files and records. 

Staff Services Work: 
•Assembles, organizes, and tabulates data. 
•Files and maintains supplies, forms, records, and reports. 
•Opens and distributes incoming mail and prepares mail-outs. 
•Assist in conducting physical inventory. 
•Perform data entry and retrieval. 
•May produce Staff Services related forms as needed. 
•May deliver, pick up, or receive documents, supplies, equipment, or materials; check for quantity and quality; or make arrangements for repairs and services. 
•May maintain office schedules and appointments and perform backup receptionist or telephone switchboard duties such as answering and routing phone calls, taking messages, and greeting and directing visitors to the appropriate staff. 
•May receive and count cash and take deposits to the bank. 
•May assist with general office duties with the Human Resources department such as copying, filing, and maintaining records and files. 
•Performs related work as assigned. 

May complete other HR duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Skill in using computers and accounting and/or human resources related software applications, database entry/management, and in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. 
Ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment. 
Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic. 
Skill in using office equipment such as, but not limited to, copy machine, fax machine, and calculator. 
Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports 



GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

Applicants should be enrolled at an institution of higher learning in an undergraduate business, public administration, Human Resources program, or related program. Experience in human resources administrative and technical assistance work preferred. Familiarity with clerical operations. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent supplemented by courses in accounting is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
