The Welcoming Communities Initiative (WCI) is a new program aimed at establishing a robust network of faith and community based organizations to assist unmet needs of unaccompanied minors in Texas and mobilize in the event of future humanitarian or other crises. 

Texas Impact is looking for volunteers who are interested in spearheading a project that will help to meet the needs of the growing population of unaccompanied minors in Texas. This includes helping to support caregivers of unaccompanied minors and immigrant families with children. Texas Impact is the largest statewide interfaith network of faith communities in Texas, working to improve the lives of Texans for 40 years. Texas Impact's mission is to focus on advocacy, education , and research activities to advance state public policies and create networks of engaged Texans. Texas Impact is a supporting organization to the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy. 

WCI Community Engagement Specialists will work to connect and establish a network of community and faith-based organizations engaged in addressing crisis issues with a focus on the current humanitarian crisis concerning unaccompanied minors in Texas. WCI Community Engagement Specialist will work to establish this sustainable network of organizations by bringing engaged organizations and leaders together, identify unmet needs of vulnerable populations, and establish protocols and processes for helping. WCI Engagement Specialists will look to strengthen program outcomes by creating materials and systems for ongoing sustainability of the WCI network of organizations. 

As part of this effort, Texas Impact WCI VISTAs will be working with faith communities of all different religious traditions to establish a network of organizations under the "Welcoming Communities Initiative", enhancing and better connecting the capacity and effectiveness of the efforts of local, state and faith-based organizations dedicated to helping address this humanitarian and future crises. 

Dates of service are April 21, 2015 to April 26, 2016. This is a 12-month, full-time (40 hours/week) position as a member of the WCI AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program serving with Texas Impact. The Community Engagement Specialist VISTA should anticipate some Saturday and Sunday hours. This year of service with AmeriCorps VISTA will be a year to build experience and gain a strong professional network to help advance your future career.
